Introduction of the CO2 emission component
From March 1, 2024, the Czech Republic will introduce a new toll fee component that will take into account the production of CO2 emissions for vehicles registered in the Electronic Toll System. With the implementation of Directive (EU) 2022/362 of the European Parliament and of the Council, the introduction of a new toll component will come into force, which will be collected in order to recover the costs caused by CO2 emissions during the operation of vehicles on toll roads in the Czech Republic.
All information regarding the introduction of the new CO2 emission component can be found on the website www.myto.gov.cz/co2.
Change in the categorization of exempt vehicles powered by electricity or hydrogen
As of March 1, 2024, the exemption from toll will cease to apply for vehicles powered by electricity or hydrogen with a gross weight of more than 4.25 t. These vehicles will be subject to the obligation to pay toll, namely the road charge and the traffic-based noise pollution charge (the air pollution charge and CO2 emissions charge will be zero). As standard, vehicles must be registered in the pre-paid or post-paid mode and equipped with an on-board unit.
Vehicles powered by electricity or hydrogen with a maximum permissible weight up to 4.25 t will continue to be registered in the electronic toll system as exempt at Contact Points and will have to be equipped with an exempt on-board unit.
